New aspects in partner selection: A study has found that women in financial difficulty prefer partners with feminine facial features.
When it comes to choosing a partner, women with financial problems appear to have an interesting preference. According to a study reported by the New York Post, they prefer men with feminine facial features. The assumption behind this is that such men are more likely to be loyal and more likely to invest in childcare in the long term.
For their study, which was published in the journal Evolutionary Psychology, the researchers recruited 802 heterosexual women with an average age of 25, of whom about 35 percent were single and 62 percent were in a committed relationship.
The women were asked to complete a survey that examined three categories of scarcity: material, time and psychological scarcity. It examined which areas of life the women had financial problems in, whether they had difficulty finding enough time to raise their children, or whether they were satisfied with the level of support they received.
The New York Post found that material scarcity – or financial hardship – was strongly correlated with an increased preference for more feminine male faces. Women found these more attractive overall, it said.
