The police have found more than 100 stolen bicycles during searches in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district. Anyone who has lost their bike can search for it on a portal.
In investigations into organized bicycle theft, police in and around Freiburg have seized more than a hundred suspected stolen bicycles with a total value of around 300,000 euros since March. Investigators found 26 of them during searches in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district in connection with a 31-year-old and a 41-year-old man, a police spokesman said on Monday.
The two suspects are in custody at the request of the Freiburg public prosecutor’s office, according to a statement. The 41-year-old is said to have been involved in commercial theft in Freiburg and the surrounding area. The second suspect is suspected of commercial receiving stolen goods. It is now being examined to what extent the other seized bikes can also be attributed to the suspects.
The bicycles and e-bikes, which could already be linked to specific crimes, were stolen between January and May in various parts of Freiburg as well as in Gundelfingen and Breisach, mostly in public spaces or from private basements and underground car parks.
Bicycles that have not yet been assigned to a person can be accessed via the Freiburg police’s wanted persons portal.
