The fence of the future Holocaust museum was vandalized Sunday evening in Montreal. A situation described as deplorable by Jacques Saada, the president of the museum.
“Putting hateful slogans on that wall has a symbolic value that everyone must denounce,” says Mr. Saad.
“Fuck Quebec, Fuck Israel” is what was illicitly written on the fence of the future Holocaust museum. “This museum, its vocation is the fight against genocide, against racism,” recalls the president of the museum.
Jacques Saad also indicates that this event “is not a surprise in itself”. He deplores the rise of anti-Semitic events in Montreal.
“This future place of memory and history […] has been soiled by inscriptions which remind us of the extent to which anti-Semitism is expressed and deployed without complexes in our metropolis,” reacted the Montreal Holocaust Museum on its Instagram page.
Mr Saad confirms that the police have been contacted about the graffiti. “We hope that the culprits will be punished,” he says.
Construction of the new museum located in downtown Montreal began in 2023 and is expected to be completed in 2025. The site is scheduled to open in 2026.
