(Taipei) Taiwan “will not give in” to pressure from China, the self-governed island’s President Lai Ching-te said Wednesday.

“In addition to military force, [the Chinese government] is increasingly using non-traditional methods of coercion to try to force Taiwan into submission. But Taiwan will not give in to pressure,” Mr. Lai assured during a press conference marking his first month in office, during which China organized large military exercises encircling the island.
