The Edmonton Oilers had their backs against the wall again in Game 5 against the Florida Panthers, who led the final series 3-1 and could win the Stanley Cup at home.
The first goal was scored by Connor Brown in the first period. Zach Hyman scored the Oilers’ second goal early in the second period. Captain Connor McDavid scored his team’s third goal shortly after. Matthew Tkatchuk responded for the Panthers. Corey Perry widened the gap to 4-1, before Evan Rodrigues responded with a second goal for the Panthers. Oliver Ekman-Larsson continued the comeback with a third goal for the Panthers in the third period. McDavid sealed the outcome of the matcha with an empty-net goal.
The Panthers had a 3-0 lead in the series, but were upset by the Oilers, who beat them 8-1 on Saturday night at Roger Place in Edmonton.
