(Montreal) A worker died on a construction site Wednesday at Phillips Square in Montreal.
The worker is a subcontractor of the company Magil Construction. The death was reported on the spot.
For now, the company can confirm that the accident occurred between 11 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, when an object fell and struck the worker.
At a press scrum on Wednesday afternoon, the Minister of Labor, Jean Boulet, indicated that it was a man in his mid-twenties. Mr. Boulet offered his sympathies to the worker’s loved ones and colleagues.
The Minister of Labour was also at a meeting of the board of directors of the Commission des normes, de l’équité, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail (CNESST) to talk about the importance of prevention at the time the tragedy occurred.
“What we need at the moment is to think about the support, the psychological help of work colleagues, family and loved ones to whom we of course offer our deepest sympathies,” he added.
In a press release, Magil Construction claimed to be working with CNESST investigators. “The site has been evacuated and we remind all our workers that they have access to psychological support,” the company also indicated.
The CNESST specified in an email that the inspectors are on site and that they “question witnesses and are interested in the work methods used, the equipment, the supervision of workers as well as their training and experience work”.
