Coco Gauff will represent the United States in tennis at the Paris Olympics, three years after missing the Tokyo Games due to COVID-19.
The 20-year-old, second in the world, will be joined in France by compatriots Jessica Pegula, Danielle Collins and Emma Navarro for the women’s singles, as well as Taylor Fritz, Tommy Paul, Chris Eubanks and Marcos Giron on the men’s side.
The tennis tournament will begin on July 27 at Roland Garros, site of the French Open.
The American team will therefore be made up of six athletes who will be having their first experience at the Games.
Gauff is the reigning U.S. Open champion and has reached the semifinals of the first two majors this season. She made it to the final on Parisian clay in 2022.
Gauff will also be aiming for a medal in doubles, having triumphed at the French Open earlier in June alongside Katerina Siniakova. She has also won five tournaments with Pegula.
Gauff tested positive for COVID-19 just days before the tournament began in Tokyo in July 2021.
Pegula returned to action last week after a neck injury suffered in April forced her to miss the French Open.
