Quebec filmmaker Martin Villeneuve, brother of Denis, will allow Jonathan Majors to resume his career on the big screen with the film Merciless, according to the Deadline website.

The American actor, who avoided prison after being found guilty of assaulting his ex-partner last December, was on a roll after landing major roles in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Creed III for start 2023.

Based on a screenplay by Frank Hannah, Merciless is a thriller that tells the story of a CIA agent on the trail of the criminals who kidnapped his partner. Filming will take place in Saskatchewan in the fall.

Martin Villeneuve, director of Mars et Avril and the more recent The 12 Labors of Imelda, is backed by producer Christopher Tuffin, one of the men behind Sound of Freedom, a box office success last year with revenues of US$250 million.
