Want to go have a drink or enjoy a meal outside? Here is our selection of terraces in Montreal and elsewhere in Quebec to make the most of the beautiful summer days.
June Buvette, which opened in the fall on Center Street, now welcomes its guests on its terrace. We have a glass of wine, surrounded by greenery, and a few plates, including the famous scallop pogos and beef tartare with a cloud of cheese.
Housed on the 9th floor of the Humaniti hotel, the Terrasse Alizé is intended to be an urban oasis with its large green space. The establishment offers a summer cocktail menu and the cuisine, led by chef Jean-Sébastien Giguère (Climats, Restaurant h3), highlights fresh, seasonal products. You can enjoy a scallop ceviche, with candied lemon cream and samphire, or an heirloom tomato salad with bufala mozzarella and herb tempura.
We sit on the terrace of Kabinet, in Mile End, to enjoy the atmosphere on Laurier Ouest. Signature cocktails and wines galore, there is no shortage of choice for an aperitif. And we accompany our drink with one or more fresh dishes to share. The French-inspired cuisine gives pride of place to fish and seafood and we don’t miss the caviar service, the restaurant’s specialty.
We (re)discover the terrace on the roof of the Société des arts technologies, in the Quartier des spectacles, thanks to a pop-up bar for the summer. On the menu, a selection of beers, wines and cocktails, as well as snacks. It’s the ideal place to have an aperitif before a show or for a happy hour after work.
The restaurant at the Saint-Sulpice hotel, in Old Montreal, has had a makeover just in time for the sunny days. The outdoor terrace is located in the interior gardens. We settle into this pretty cocoon for lunch, dinner, dinner or brunch on the weekends. In the evening, we order cuts of meat cooked over charcoal (beef scoter, tomahawk), or cold dishes of zucchini or tonnato asparagus.
We head to the 44th floor of Place Ville Marie – just below the Hiatus and Sora45 restaurants – to experience RoseOrange. In this ideal hideaway for admiring the sunset over Mount Royal and the city center, we sit down for an aperitif in a festive atmosphere. The RoseOrange offers a nice list of wines, spritzes, cocktails and coolers. We accompany our glass with an antipasto to complete the whole thing.
The new establishment on rue Saint-Alexandre has nicely furnished its outdoor terrace, which becomes an extension of the premises designed by co-owner and designer Zébulon Perron. Plants and a small fountain make it a true urban haven. Papito’s menu is perfect for the hot season. We are offered meats cooked over charcoal or in a wood oven, as well as vegetable dishes for a little freshness.
Taqueria El Gordo recently opened a branch in the heart of Saint-Lambert, on the South Shore. This summer, we linger on its spacious and covered terrace to enjoy the Mexican menu with many options of tacos, nachos, salads, quesadillas, fajitas. You can also sit at the outdoor bar to enjoy one of the refreshing house cocktails. On weekends, the restaurant serves a Latin-inspired brunch. On the menu: huevos rancheros, chilaquiles, French toast, breakfast burrito.
The new terrace of the bar in the Saint-Jean-Baptiste district of Quebec is sure to find a buyer. Several rounded benches welcome fans of local beers and spirits. A short menu of snacks (sardines, olives, chips and cold meats) is there to satisfy those hungry.
The Griendel brewery has moved to the Montcalm district of Quebec. So we take advantage of the beautiful summer days to try the new terrace and a few house beers. The new menu, from chef Yanick Verreault, includes dishes to share, and obviously the classics from the former Saint-Sauveur branch (poutine, wings, charcuterie board, sauerkraut and brownie).
Passing through Magog? Let yourself be tempted by the terrace of the White Horse café-bistro for breakfast, lunch or dinner. You can enjoy your coffee or early evening drink by the fireplace or invite yourself onto the terrace to enjoy a dish. On the menu: gourmet salads and sandwiches for lunch and plates of fish, seafood and meat for dinner.
