(The Hague) Dutchwoman Anna van der Breggen, one of the most successful women’s cyclists, will return to competition in 2025 after a three-year absence, announced the SD Worx-Protime team for whom she will ride for the next two seasons.

The Dutchwoman, Olympic champion and double world champion on the road, retired from competitions three years ago and assured Thursday at a press conference that “the motivation has completely returned”.

Anna van der Breggen, 34, has held a managerial position with the Dutch team since 2022.

“I find this role magnificent and it’s a real challenge, but I realize that I will still be able to do it in ten years. If I want to get back on the bike, it’s now or never,” she said.

“It will be less about success and more about having fun on the bike, even if I remain a winner,” added the rider.

Anna van der Breggen has 62 victories to her name. World champion in 2018 and 2020, she achieved the feat of completing the time-line race double at Imola (2020). She has notably also won the Giro Rosa four times, the women’s Tour of Italy, in 2015, 2017, 2020 and 2021, and the Flèche Wallonne seven years in a row, from 2015 to 2021.

The Dutchwoman also won Liège-Bastogne-Liège twice (2017, 2018), the Tour of Flanders (2018) and the Strade Bianche (2018). At the Olympics, she won the gold medal in the road race in 2016 in Rio and the bronze medal in the time trial in Rio and Tokyo three years ago.
