The Gelsenkirchen police have called off a manhunt for two unknown men. A 15-year-old girl had reported that the two men had sexually abused her. As the police have now announced, this is not true.

The girl had made up the story. She had said that after school at around 12 o’clock she had been waiting for a friend at a bus stop on Kranefeldstrasse in the Nordsternpark area in Gelsenkirchen. Then a white van pulled up next to her, two men got out and forced her into the car.

After a long journey, the young woman was first sexually assaulted by the two men in a house in an unknown location. After another trip in Essen, the two unknown men let her out of the car on Hollestrasse. The two men were dressed in black and wore balaclavas. The men had an Arabic accent, the girl claimed.

“Investigations have shown that the incident did not occur as described and that no sexual offense or other crime was committed against the young people. Thus, at no time was there any danger to the public from fugitive, unknown suspects,” the police said.
