The Montreal team wasted no time before reaching an agreement with its first choice from the last selection session, Cayla Barnes.
The team announced Friday afternoon, during the opening day of the free agent market, that it had reached a three-year agreement with the defender, which leads us to the 2026-2027 season. As is the convention of the Players’ Association, the salary terms of the contract have not been revealed.
“We are extremely happy to have concluded this agreement so quickly,” said the general director, Danièle Sauvageau, in a press release. “Cayla will strengthen us on the blue line, especially since her style fits with the one we advocate. »
Barnes, who just finished his NCAA run with the Ohio State University Buckeyes, was the 5th overall pick in the most recent LPHF draft. After her selection, general manager Danièle Sauvageau said that the right-handed defender could “come and lend a hand next season”.
“Since we drafted her, we realize even more what a quality person Cayla is and know that she will fit perfectly within our team,” adds Sauvageau.
Last season, Barnes amassed 36 points, in addition to having the highest differential in the American university circuit, plus -71. The Eastvale, Calif., native won two gold and three silver medals with the U.S. national team at the World Championships.
