(London) Andy Murray will undergo “surgery” on his back before the former world number 1 makes a decision on whether to compete at Wimbledon or the Paris Olympics.

His team confirmed that the operation was to take place on Saturday, but did not give details.

The 37-year-old withdrew from his second-round match at the Queen’s Club tournament due to back pain on Wednesday. It is the latest of several injuries that have slowed the two-time Wimbledon champion.

Murray, who has already revealed his intention to retire at the end of the year, stopped playing while trailing 4-1 to Australian Jordan Thompson. He said he was suffering from problems with his right leg before he even got on the field.

After three games, Murray received treatment to his right hip, right knee and lower back.
