A woman was attacked by wolves while jogging in a French safari zoo. She accidentally walked into an area that is normally only accessible to visitors by car.
As CNN reports, a woman who was staying overnight at a French safari zoo was attacked by several wolves on Sunday. The 37-year-old accidentally entered a part of the zoo that is normally only accessible by car and strictly forbidden to pedestrians.
The incident occurred at around 9:30 a.m. Sunday in the Thoiry Zoological Park in Yvelines, France, about 50 kilometers west of Paris, according to broadcaster TF1. The 37-year-old woman had gone jogging in the morning after spending the night in the park and accidentally entered the safari zone.
Wild animals such as wolves and bears roam freely in this seven-hectare area. According to the zoo’s management, there is only one entrance to the safari area.
“There is all the information there to indicate that it is a danger zone and that you should not get out of your car and drive into this zone. In addition, we have the animators and organizers who already informed our customers about the danger zone yesterday evening,” Christelle Percheny, CEO of Wow Safary Thoiry, assured TF1.
TF1 further reports that the woman suffered “serious” injuries from the wolf attack and was bitten on the neck, calf and back. The zookeepers were alerted by screams.
“Fortunately, the medical staff intervened very quickly and we were able to save this person,” said zoo director Christelle Bercheny at a press conference. After her treatment in hospital, her condition has now “stabilized,” TF1 and CNN report.
