After torrential rains in less than 24 hours, the municipality’s infrastructure is under high surveillance.
During the day on Sunday, no less than 100 mm of water fell on the municipality of Chertsey, in the Lanaudière region. With its 110 lakes and 58 dams, such bad weather inevitably causes heavy pressure on the city’s dams and roads.
“The situation is under close surveillance for the next 12 to 18 hours,” said its general director, Marc-André Plante. “All our teams are at work tonight to monitor the entire territory. »
According to him, 10 to 12 streets and roads were flooded this Sunday evening. No one has yet been evacuated. Some residences are at risk of flooding, and a shed has already suffered significant damage. In two places, the road has subsided, making traffic impossible – several citizens are currently isolated. “Obviously, it is our priority to ensure that we restore this road,” specifies the general manager.
Citizens are encouraged to minimize their travel and quickly report any emergency situation to the municipality.
Marc-André Plante emphasizes that his municipality includes 5,600 permanent citizens, but that with Saint-Jean, the city generally welcomes between 17,000 and 18,000 people. He invites the population to follow the evolution of the situation on the municipality’s social networks.
