(Saint John) Princess Anne’s trip to Newfoundland and Labrador next weekend to mark the 100th anniversary of the opening of the national war memorial in St. John’s has been cancelled.
A Buckingham Palace spokesperson announced Monday morning that the princess was injured while walking on Sunday evening. A statement said she suffered minor injuries and a concussion on the Gatcombe Park estate, but neither the statement nor the spokesperson provided details of what happened.
The statement said she is being kept under observation as a precaution at Southmead Hospital in Bristol and is expected to make a full recovery.
In a statement Monday morning, Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Andrew Furey said he was disappointed that Princess Anne would not be able to attend the weekend’s events and wished her a speedy recovery.
King Charles III’s sister Anne is Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment and Chair of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
