By playing with fire, Peru got burned, and Canada took advantage of it. Despite an up-and-down performance, the Unifolié managed to snatch a first victory with a score of 1-0 during their second match of the Copa América.
However, it is doubtful that Canada’s performance will go down in history. Before Peruvian central defender Miguel Araujo received a red card, Jesse Marsch’s men were still looking to get a shot on target. But with an extra man, they managed to dictate the pace, until Jonathan David’s goal in the 75th minute, following a superb delivery from Jacob Shaffelburg.
Quebec goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau was imperious in the match, notably distinguishing himself with two spectacular saves during stoppage time.
Canada will face Chile for its third match of the tournament on Saturday, June 29.
