London’s Heathrow Airport was affected by massive disruptions and delays. The reason for this was apparently a problem with an airline.

As the British “Daily Mail” reports, an IT error in the system of the airline British Airways at Heathrow Airport in London last evening (June 25th) led to significant disruptions. Due to the outage, passengers had to wait for hours to claim their baggage and on airplanes. Some passengers even reported panic attacks among the travelers.

The airline British Airways informed the affected passengers via text message about the technical problem and apologized for the inconvenience: “We regret to inform you that due to a technical problem with our baggage distribution system at Heathrow, we cannot guarantee that your bags have traveled on your flight today,” the message said, according to the Daily Mail.

In addition, Heathrow Airport said on X (formerly Twitter) that it was assisting the airline in resolving the technical issue and advised passengers to check their flight with British Airways before travelling to the airport. As The Mirror reports, the airline advised passengers to “go home” in the chaos.

Due to the ongoing problems, there have been increasing reports of sometimes dramatic scenes. According to reports in the Daily Mail, those affected included children who suffered panic attacks and passengers who had to wait for hours.

Other passengers apparently had to wait a long time on the plane before they were allowed to claim their baggage. One passenger even described the United Kingdom as a “third world country”.

Despite Heathrow Airport’s claim that no other airline was affected by British Airways’ IT glitch, an analysis of flight tracking data showed significant delays and numerous cancellations of departures. According to the Daily Mail, only 11 of the 174 flights scheduled to depart from 6 p.m. took off on time.

Just two years ago, a similar chaotic situation occurred at Heathrow Airport. At that time, there were significant problems with baggage handling. Some passengers had to travel without their luggage. However, the airport is working closely with the airlines and plans to send the passengers their luggage within two days, it said in a statement at the time.
