(Rome) Italian gymnast Vanessa Ferrari, Olympic vice-champion on floor in Tokyo in 2021, withdrew from the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris (July 26-August 11) on Thursday due to a calf injury.
“My journey to Paris ends here. Yesterday (Wednesday), during a test for the Italian Championships next week, my calf gave way when I took my momentum for a jump,” she wrote on her Instagram account.
“As there is only a month left before the Games, I will not have time to recover from this muscle injury,” she continued.
Ferrari, 33, was scheduled to compete in his fifth Olympics in Paris.
In Tokyo, she finished 2nd on floor behind the American Jade Carey, giving Italy its first Olympic medal in gymnastics since 1928.
Her track record includes a title of world champion in the all-around competition in 2006 and a European coronation, again in the all-around competition, in 2007.
