(Fredericton) The government of New Brunswick announced that French President Emmanuel Macron had postponed a planned visit to the province in July.
A statement released Thursday by Prime Minister Blaine Higgs’ office said his government was informed this week by the French consulate that President Macron’s official visit had been postponed, without providing further details.
President Macron called early parliamentary elections on June 19 following the results in France’s European elections. The first round of the French parliamentary elections will take place in three days, with the second round scheduled for July 7.
Earlier this month, Mr Higgs was criticized by the opposition for boasting that Mr Macron’s visit to Canada was the result of a trip to France last year by his tourism minister .
Higgs said the trip inspired Macron’s planned visit to New Brunswick, which he called “truly impressive.”
