19-year-old Jay Slater has been missing on the holiday island of Tenerife for 11 days now. The young Briton presumably disappeared in the west of the island when he was on his way back to his accommodation. In the search for the missing man, search teams have now made a surprising discovery.

Jay Slater, a trainee from Oswaldtwistle in Lancashire, disappeared on the popular holiday island on Monday 17 June 2024.

The young Brit was last seen at a party at the three-day NRG music festival. Afterwards, he is said to have driven to an apartment in the west of the island with a group he had met at the event. The next morning, the 19-year-old wanted to make his way back to his own accommodation.

Shortly before his disappearance, the young Brit called a friend. In a dramatic call, Slater reported that he was lost, urgently needed water and that his smartphone only had 1% battery left. Shortly afterwards, the connection was lost. Since then, there has been no trace of him.

During the intensive search for the young Briton near the Rural de Teno National Park, rescue workers discovered a 51-year-old Scottish hiker. The man was tired and confused.

According to the news site Tenerife News, he was rescued from a difficult-to-access ravine near Los Carrizales. A police spokesman told the newspaper: “He is exhausted but otherwise fine.” However, his disappearance was barely reported.

But what about Slater’s fate? According to British media, the search for Jay Slater is being expanded to the surrounding area. The Buenavista del Norte police and the mountain rescue team of the civil protection authority are to share the operation. Residents and many internet users are also actively involved.
