Archery | Chénier and Peters named to Canadian team for Paris

(Toronto) Quebecer Virginie Chénier and Ontarian Eric Peters have been named to the Canadian archery team for the Paris Olympic Games.

Archery Canada and the Canadian Olympic Committee revealed the identities of the athletes making up the Canadian team on Friday. Both archers will make their Olympic debut.

Aged 29 and originally from Laval, Chénier lost to Kristine Esebua in the final of the Pan-American continental qualifiers in April. She then qualified for the Olympic recurve event.

Archery Canada previously said Esebua, a four-time Olympian for Georgia who immigrated to Canada in 2019, was ineligible to represent the country in Paris.

Peters, 27, won the silver medal in the men’s individual recurve event at the 2023 World Archery Championships. It was Canada’s best result in the event.

By qualifying both a male and a female athlete, Canada will also participate in the mixed team event in Paris.

The archery events at the Olympics will be held from July 25 to August 4.
