A wildfire known as the Lake Fire broke out near Zaca Lake, northeast of Los Olivos, California, on Friday. The fire has already burned over 16,000 acres and is currently not contained at all. More than 750 firefighters from the U.S. Forest Service and Santa Barbara County Fire Department are working to control the blaze.
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office has issued evacuation orders for an area that includes the famous Neverland Ranch, previously owned by the late Michael Jackson. The property, which spans 2,700 acres in Los Olivos, is under immediate threat from the fire. Thankfully, there have been no reports of injuries, structural damage, or fatalities so far.
Neverland Ranch was once a private entertainment complex, featuring a zoo, a train, a Ferris wheel, and a 50-seat theater. Michael Jackson purchased the ranch in 1988 and named it after the fictional island home of Peter Pan. Despite facing allegations of child molestation, Mr. Jackson continued to own the ranch until his passing in 2009.
The fire danger is exacerbated by high temperatures in the area, reaching the 90s over the weekend, and low humidity levels. Aerial support, including air tankers and helicopters, has been deployed to assist firefighters on the ground. Evacuation warnings are in place for specific areas surrounding the fire.
The fire was first reported on Friday afternoon and quickly grew due to the combination of low humidity, strong winds, and hot weather conditions. By Sunday, the fire had spread across thousands of acres, posing a significant threat to the surrounding area.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the Lake Fire. The situation remains critical as firefighters work tirelessly to contain the blaze and protect the lives and properties in the affected area. Residents are urged to stay informed and follow evacuation orders to ensure their safety during this challenging time.
