According to court documents, the teenager, who is described as a train enthusiast or “railfan,” is facing two felony counts of criminal mischief for damaging or tampering with property.

The derailment, which was caused by the train driving through a misaligned switch, resulted in approximately $200,000 in damages to BNSF locomotives and property, as well as at least $150,000 in damages to Omaha Public Power District property.
