The Mural festival and the City of Montreal inaugurated on Monday a gigantic ephemeral fresco, painted by the French artist Saype at the foot of Mount Royal.
“This type of project is a first in Canada and a symbol of the impressive capacity of urban art to innovate to transform public spaces”, underlined the president and creative director of the Mural festival, Nicolas Munn Rico. The urban art festival is also preparing to launch its 11th edition this Thursday, which will continue until June 18.
The work was produced in a week, with fully biodegradable paint, on a specially landscaped grassy area. It is part of Saype’s Beyond Walls series, a project that has traveled the world since 2019, from Paris to New York via Asia and the Middle East.
The project was carried out thanks to the financial support of the Conseil des Arts et lettres du Québec and the Institut français.
