Filmoption international, Les films du Paria and MAX Films unveil this Friday the trailer for Ababouiné, André Forcier’s 17th film.
Written with François P. Forcier, Laurie Perron and Jean Boileau, based on an original idea by the filmmaker, Ababouiné transports us to 1957 in Faubourg à m’lasse, a former district of Center-Sud Montreal.
Suffering from poliomyelitis, young Michel Paquette (Rémi Brideau) prefers reading poetry published by Saint-Amour et fille to going to Sunday mass.
The 12-year-old boy also helps the pamphleteer Archange Saint-Amour (Gaston Lepage) to print Vive le Québec laïque, which has the effect of shocking the clergy.
From then on, a fierce struggle opposes the severe vicar Cotnoir (Éric Bruneau) and the anarchist teacher Rochette (Martin Dubreuil).
Ababouiné, which arrives in cinemas on August 23, also stars Rémy Girard, Pascale Montpetit and Mylène Mackay.
