Interior cabins are frowned upon on cruises. Travel blogger Lauren Mack reveals why she only books rooms without windows.
Avid cruiser Lauren Mack explains her preference for interior cabins on cruise ships to Business Insider. After more than 25 trips, she believes booking an inside cabin is the smarter choice for travelers.
According to the cruise veteran, inside cabins are usually the cheapest option. In addition, the lack of a balcony or window motivates you to explore the ship and its numerous offerings. She says that although she initially booked balcony rooms out of habit, she got a taste for an inside cabin thanks to a cheap last-minute offer.
Although a balcony or window may seem more attractive at first glance, she argues that people rarely spend much time in the cabin on cruises. They estimate that most passengers only spend a few hours on the balcony, which does not justify the additional cost of an outside cabin. Mack is certain: “Inside cabins on cruises are for everyone who wants to travel smarter.”
The travel blogger points out that interior cabins are often just as large, if not larger, than rooms with windows. They also have spectacular features that are not found in outside cabins. She points to examples such as Disney Cruise Lines, which have equipped their interior cabins with “magic” portholes, and Royal Caribbean, where some interior cabins have floor-to-ceiling virtual “balconies.”
Another plus point, Mack says, is that the savings she makes by booking inside cabins allows her to take more cruises. She also mentions in her report the possibility of a free upgrade to a balcony cabin if the ship is not fully booked.
Interior cabins offer an additional advantage for seasick guests. Travelers on their first cruise in particular are often afraid that their dream cruise will be disrupted by nausea caused by the constant swaying. These guests are best accommodated in a cabin in the middle of the ship. The waves are less noticeable there than at the edges.
You should also always pay attention to the adjacent rooms when booking. Very few guests want a disco, bar or kids’ club next to their cabin. Cabins at the stern are also often noisy because of their proximity to the engines.
