Due to a mysterious smell in an airplane, two flight attendants had to be taken to the emergency room. The exact cause is still unclear.
Two flight attendants fell ill on Monday evening while boarding an Alaska Airlines flight when they noticed an “unfamiliar odor” in the back of the plane. As USA Today reports, the planned flight had to be canceled as a result.
The incident occurred on flight ASA 828, which was scheduled to take off from Honolulu to Anchorage at 11:45 p.m. local time. During the boarding process, two female crew members reported feeling unwell. At around 11:15 p.m., they were treated by rescue workers and taken to an emergency room, a Honolulu Emergency Services spokesperson told USA Today.
The airline responsible for the flight, Alaska Airlines, emphasized that the incident was immediately and properly reported to the relevant authorities. Both flight attendants have since recovered and have been medically cleared by medical staff. The women were then able to return to work. The cause of the incident and the “unknown smell” is still unclear.
A similar mysterious case of illness occurred a few weeks ago on a flight from Mauritius to Frankfurt am Main. On the flight, around 70 of 94 passengers reportedly complained of nausea and vomiting. Only the flight crew were spared from the symptoms of the illness.
After landing in Frankfurt, a large number of paramedics and emergency doctors were reportedly on standby. However, they were said to have dealt with the business class first before it was the turn of the economy class passengers.
