Arcane Season 1 Secures 4K Home Entertainment Release After GKIDS Acquires Global Video and Transactional Rights
Leading independent distributor GKIDS has acquired the global video and digital transactional rights (excluding China) to season one of the award-winning animated series “Arcane,” based on the popular “League of Legends” video game universe, produced by Riot Games and Fortiche Productions.
Originally launched on Netflix, “Arcane” has been a major success for the streaming platform, winning four Emmy Awards and nine Annies. It currently holds the 27th spot on IMDB’s list of top-rated TV series, encompassing both animation and live-action shows.
GKIDS has announced plans to collaborate with international partners to release a comprehensive range of products later this year, including digital and premium editions. A special 4K version will be exclusively available for home entertainment release.
Eric Beckman, the founder and CEO of GKIDS, expressed his enthusiasm for the acquisition, stating, “We are huge fans of the series, and our team is thrilled to work with the creative minds at Riot and Fortiche to deliver an exceptional package for the fans. This partnership was born out of a shared vision at Annecy, and we are delighted to unveil this collaboration at the festival, which truly celebrates the art of animation.”
“Arcane” is set within the fictional world of the immensely popular League of Legends video game, developed by Riot Games and Fortiche Productions for Netflix. Co-created by Christian Linke and Alex Yee, the series delves into the backstory of iconic League champions Vi and Jinx, as they navigate the power dynamics between the prosperous city of Piltover and the marginalized underground realm of Zaun.
