Art Basel Paris Announces Name Change for Expanded Third Edition
Art Basel has revealed details for the upcoming third edition of its Paris fair, scheduled for October 18-20. One of the major changes announced is the rebranding of the event from Paris+ par Art Basel to simply Art Basel Paris. According to Clément Delépine, the director of the Paris fair, the decision to change the name was made in consultation with France’s culture minister and in response to feedback from exhibitors. The new name aims to better align the Paris fair with the established Art Basel brand and streamline its identity in the art world.
Relocation and Expansion at Art Basel Paris 2024
In addition to the name change, Art Basel Paris will also be moving to a new location at the Grand Palais, following two years at the temporary Grand Palais Éphémère. The relocation will allow for a 26% increase in the number of exhibitors, with a total of 194 galleries participating in the upcoming edition. The larger space will accommodate 40 more exhibitors, including 51 first-time participants such as Casey Kaplan, Standard, and Athr. Stand sizes will also be expanded to provide a more engaging experience for visitors.
New Features and Exhibitor Highlights
The expanded third edition of Art Basel Paris will introduce new sections, including Premise, featuring nine galleries with unique presentations that may include art created before 1900. Nara Roesler will be among the galleries presenting works by Brazilian artists Tomie Ohtake and Chico Tabibuia. The fair aims to showcase diverse voices in contemporary art and promote inclusivity in the art world. Additionally, the Émergence section for younger galleries will see a rotation of exhibitors, with several galleries transitioning to the main part of the fair.
