A man armed with a pickaxe and incendiary device attacked police officers near Silbersackstrasse, Hamburg police said early on Sunday afternoon. The man was knocked down, but no one else was injured. Emergency medical services are on site and are treating the attacker, who was injured in the leg. The “Hamburger Morgenpost” and the “Bild” newspaper had previously reported on the incident.
Thousands of Dutch fans celebrated peacefully on the Reeperbahn in the St. Pauli district. The Dutch team will play against Poland at 3 p.m. in the European Football Championship in Hamburg’s Volksparkstadion.
