(Bad Homburg, Germany) Quebec’s Leylah Annie Fernandez easily won her first game of the Bad Homburg Open 6-0, 6-1 against Germany’s Lena Papadakis.
The Lavalloise needed only 54 minutes to win her first WTA 250 tournament match.
In the second round, Fernandez will face ninth-seeded Russian Anna Blinkova, who defeated another German, Sabine Lisicki, 3-6, 6-1, 7-5.
Fifth-seeded Ontario’s Bianca Andreescu also advanced to the second round with a 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 win over Britain’s Sonay Kartal.
She will now face Spaniard Rebeka Masarova, who defeated Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich 6-3, 6-2.
