Kabosu’s owner, a kindergarten teacher from Chiba Prefecture east of Tokyo, adopted the dog from the animal shelter in 2008, the Japanese newspaper “Asahi Shimbun” reported. “A number of wonderful things have happened since Kabosu came to my home,” she told the newspaper. Two years later, she published a photo showing Kabosu with his front paws crossed and a “skeptical expression on his face.” It was only years later that she found out from a friend that the image had become a worldwide meme on the Internet.
The digital currency Dogecoin even used the dog’s image for its logo. “The impact this one dog has had across the world is immeasurable,” said a post on the Dogecoin account. “We were all lucky that her story touched and shaped ours.” Kabosu was around 18 years old, reported the newspaper “Asahi Shimbun” – that corresponds to almost 90 years in human years.
