A museum technician at the LAM Museum in Lisse, Netherlands, accidentally threw away a piece of artwork by French artist Alexandre Lavet. The artwork, titled “All the good times we spent together” from 1988, consisted of two hand-painted beer cans that were displayed as part of the museum’s collection.

The confusion occurred when a lift technician, filling in for another employee, mistook the cans for trash left behind in the museum’s glass elevator shaft. Museum Director Sietske van Zanten explained that the worker was simply doing his job and there are no hard feelings towards him. The museum has described the incident as a testament to the effectiveness of Lavet’s art, which is known for being displayed in unexpected places to enhance the visitor experience.

The theme of the collection where the artwork was displayed is food and consumption, and the museum aims to surprise and engage visitors by placing artworks in unconventional locations. After the missing artwork was discovered in a bin bag ready to be thrown away, museum curator Elisah van den Bergh decided to temporarily showcase it near the front of the museum to commemorate the incident.

Both beer cans were found intact, and the museum has decided to keep the location of the artwork’s future display a secret to surprise new visitors. “All the good times we spent together” represents cherished memories with friends, symbolizing the meaningful connections formed over shared drinks. The museum officials emphasized the value of seemingly trivial moments of connection in our lives.
