The Free University of Berlin (FU) wants to tolerate another pro-Palestinian “protest camp” planned for this Thursday evening if anti-Semitism, calls for violence and damage to property are avoided.

“We assume that the police will ensure that the camp serves exclusively for the peaceful and free expression of opinion,” said FU President Günter M. Ziegler. “Anti-Semitism, racism, Islamophobia and other forms of discrimination as well as any form of violence, calls for violence and damage to property are red lines for us.” We will respond to this with charges.

The “protest camp” was registered with the police as a demonstration from June 20 to 27 on a lawn near the Henry Ford building at the FU. The lawn is considered a publicly accessible area and therefore falls under the demonstration law. The university is in contact with the police.

The Palestine Committee group announced that it wanted to use this new camp to protest against the ongoing “genocide” by Israel. The demonstration was also against the clearing of previous similar camps and occupations of parts of the university, as well as against “repression” against students.
