Body camera footage of a man being fatally shot by police near the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee has been released to the public. The man, identified as Samuel Sharpe, was seen holding knives in both hands and refusing to comply with officers’ commands. The Columbus, Ohio police officers, who were assisting with convention security, were shown running towards Sharpe while shouting for him to drop the knives.
The shooting took place just after 1 p.m. near 13th Street and West Vliet Street, a couple of miles away from the Fiserv Forum where the convention was being held. Despite the proximity to the RNC, the Columbus Division of Police stated that the incident did not appear to be related to the convention.
Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman revealed during a press conference that Sharpe was involved in a confrontation with another individual while armed with knives.
