(New York) 1980s Culture Club icon Boy George returns to Broadway in Moulin Rouge! The Musical.
The singer-songwriter, whose hits include Karma Chameleon and Do You Really Want to Hurt Me, will play Moulin Rouge club owner Harold Zidler in the adaptation of Baz Luhrmann’s 2001 film.
He will step into character from February 6 to May 12 at the Al Hirschfeld Theater on Broadway, succeeding Tituss Burgess.
The show, which recounts the adventures of a Parisian nightclub at the turn of the century, has been updated with tunes like Single Ladies and Firework, in addition to the big hit Lady Marmalade. The play won 10 Tony Awards in 2021, including Best New Musical.
Boy George last graced the Broadway stage in 2003 with Taboo, for which he wrote the music and lyrics. Critics largely disapproved of this show, which recounted part of his life. He also performed in this show, but did not play himself.
