On November 6, a tragic incident occurred at Geisel Library when an unidentified person fell to their death from the eighth-floor stairwell. The library was closed early, and UCPD officers were on the scene to investigate. Despite the closure, the library staff is assisting students in retrieving their belongings and offering support during this difficult time.

UC San Diego has issued statements on social media, informing the campus community of the incident and the closure of Geisel Library for the rest of the day. The WongAvery Library will remain open until 8 p.m. for students who need access to library resources. Additional updates on tomorrow’s building hours will be provided as soon as possible.

In response to the incident, UCSD’s Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is offering walk-in appointments to students who may need support or counseling. The campus community is encouraged to take advantage of these resources during this challenging time.

The Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor Elizabeth H. Simmons has also sent out an email to all academics, staff, and students, emphasizing the closure of Geisel Library for the day. Plans for classes and any relocations will be communicated through Canvas, and updates on library hours will be posted on the library website.

As the situation continues to unfold, The Triton will provide updates as new information becomes available. Our thoughts are with the individual involved in this tragic incident and the entire UC San Diego community during this difficult time.
