Bridgerton Season 3: Disqualified from the 2024 Emmy Awards

Fans of the popular Netflix series Bridgerton will be disappointed to hear that the much-anticipated third season will not be eligible for the 2024 Emmy Awards. Despite the excitement surrounding the new season, a technicality in the Emmy rules has led to the disqualification of the series from being nominated in any category this year.

The third season of Bridgerton premiered on Netflix on May 16, with a focus on the love story between Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington. The initial release included four episodes, and the final four episodes are set to debut on June 13. However, the Emmy Awards eligibility calendar runs from June 1 to May 31. To be considered for the top drama and comedy series categories, a minimum of six episodes must be released within this timeframe. As a result, Bridgerton Season 3 will not meet the criteria for the 2024 Emmy Awards.

There was a possibility for Bridgerton to qualify under the “hangover rule,” which previously allowed shows that finished airing before the nomination-round voting to be considered for awards. However, the Television Academy revised this rule in July 2022, eliminating this potential pathway for Bridgerton.

Season 3 of Bridgerton features Luke Newton and Nicola Coughlan in leading roles and is based on Julia Quinn’s novel “Romancing Mister Bridgerton.” New actors joining the cast include Daniel Francis, James Phoon, and Sam Phillips. The regular cast includes Adjoa Andoh, Golda Rosheuvel, Simone Ashley, Jonathan Bailey, and the voice of Julie Andrews as Lady Whistledown.

The first season of Bridgerton was a big success at the Emmy Awards, receiving 12 nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series. While Season 3 won’t be eligible for the 2024 Emmys, the series continues to be beloved by fans and has a large following.

Although Bridgerton Season 3 will not be part of the Emmy Awards this year, its captivating storytelling and strong performances suggest it will remain a key player in the streaming landscape. Fans can still enjoy the unfolding romance and drama of the Bridgerton family as the series progresses. The show’s exclusion from the 2024 Emmys may be disappointing, but it does not diminish the impact Bridgerton has had on its audience and the entertainment industry as a whole.
