False identity, canvassers… Burglars multiply the techniques to enter your home. Discover in our slideshow below the signs that allow you to anticipate their actions. However, break-ins or attempted thefts in homes have reportedly decreased since the Covid-19 pandemic.
On May 16, 2023, INSEE published its annual study on the number of burglaries in France excluding Mayotte. In 2022, there are nearly 211,400 registered by the police and national gendarmerie services. “This represents 5.8 offenses per 1,000 dwellings”, specifies the document. In 2019, there were 6.5 burglaries or attempts per 1,000 homes. However, not all departments are equal when it comes to these crimes.
Unsurprisingly, burglaries and attempted break-ins are much more prevalent in high-density urban areas. In these regions, there are 7.6 offenses per 1,000 dwellings in 2022. Conversely, non-peri-urban rural municipalities obtain the best score with only 3.5 out of 1,000 burglarized dwellings. Discover in our slideshow below the signs allowing you to protect yourself from it.
Île-de-France and the Provence-Alpes Côte d’Azur (PACA) region are at the top of the areas most at risk for this type of crime. Indeed, the Ile-de-France region has 46,520 burglaries in 2022. This is equivalent to 7.9 offenses per 1,000 dwellings. The PACA region is second with 23,400 break-ins or attempts, or 7.5 per 1,000 homes. At the bottom of the top 3, we find the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region with 30,655 offences. This represents approximately 7 thefts per 1,000 homes.
