California High School Regalia Bill: A Game Changer for Students
So, like, eight years back, California was all like, “Hey schools, let your students wear cool cultural stuff at graduation, okay?” But turns out, more than half of the schools were like, “Nah, we’re good,” throwing up all these roadblocks. Enter Assemblyman James Ramos, a real hero from San Bernardino, bringing the issue back to the Legislature with a new bill that’s gonna shake things up.
Assemblyman Ramos, a Democrat, is all about this bill, AB 1369, that’s gonna make it way easier for students to rock their cultural regalia at graduations. ‘Cause, you know, currently, like 56% of high schools are cool with it, but only if you jump through hoops to get permission in advance. And let me tell you, that can be a real buzzkill, especially when you’re just trying to represent your roots on your big day.
The bill is moving through the Senate now, and it’s all about letting students wear any type of cultural regalia without all the hassle. But some schools are like, “Hold up, that’s way too vague. We need a pre-approval process to make sure everything’s on point.” I mean, sure, we don’t want anyone showing up in something totally inappropriate, but can’t we trust students and their families to know what’s right for them? Not really sure why this matters, but hey, that’s just where we’re at right now.
