A man in his 30s tragically drowned in Lake Sikiyou near Mount Shasta in Northern California while swimming with a friend. The incident occurred when their boat drifted away, leaving the man struggling in the water. Despite efforts to rescue him, he disappeared under the surface before help could reach him. The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office led search and recovery efforts, with assistance from the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office, deploying dive teams, K-9 units, and drones to locate the man’s body.

The victim, who has not been publicly identified pending family notification, was discovered 49 feet below the lake’s surface a day after the accident. The sheriff’s department expressed gratitude to the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office and Sikiyou County Search and Rescue Team for their support during the operation.

Lake Siskiyou, where the tragic incident took place, is a popular recreational spot in Northern California. Drowning remains a significant risk, with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reporting that 80% of drowning deaths involve men.
