This is not clear if it’s a major update or a sequel.
Activision announced Friday that it is currently working on two major Call of Duty initiatives in 2022. The first is a sequel of 2019’s Call of Duty and the second is a “new Warzone Experience,” according a blog post.
It is unclear whether the Warzone experience will be a sequel or an update to Fortnite massive chapters changes. The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Activision promises big things. Activision promises “a major evolution of battle royale” with an all-new playspace, sandbox mode, and a new engine. This new Call of Duty experience and the new Warzone game will be developed by Infinity Ward, who also created Modern Warfare and Infinite Warfare and other Call of Duty titles, including the original.
Activision also announced improvements to the Warzone experience. This has been heavily criticised in recent weeks because of bugs, exploits and the high number of cheaters. Activision Blizzard has been under intense scrutiny since a lawsuit was filed in California against the company. The lawsuit claimed that it encouraged harassment and discrimination at work and after protests by workers at Raven Software‘s support studio Call of Duty . This news comes hours after a detailed Washington Post profile Bobby Kotick, Activision Blizzard CEO, which includes details about lawsuits he was involved in.
Microsoft’s intention to purchase Activision Blizzard was announced in January. Although Call of Duty is a valuable Xbox-exclusive asset, Microsoft statements since the acquisition news indicate that the company intends to keep Call of Duty as well as other Activision games on multiple platform.
