(Montreal) A parliamentary committee recommends compensating federal civil servants who suffered financial losses in the transfer of their insurance plan to Canada Life.
It also reports the difficulties that French-speaking employees had in obtaining services in French from Canada Life and makes a recommendation to correct the situation.
The Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates examined the transfer of the Federal Public Service Health Care Plan from Sun Life to Canada Life in July 2023.
After hearing from the parties concerned, he produced a report, tabled this month.
Among other things, it recommends “that the Government of Canada ensure that employees who have suffered financial losses due to unjustified processing delays or unjustified rejections of Canada Life claims are fully compensated for their losses.”
It also recommends that Ottawa “ensure the ability of the selected company to offer services in French, at all times and within the same time frame as services provided in English.”
