Canadian Richie Laryea Set to Make Comeback Against D.C. United

TORONTO — Toronto FC’s Richie Laryea, who has been out with a hamstring injury since the season opener, is anticipated to return to action this weekend against D.C. United.

Coach John Herdman confirmed that Laryea will be traveling with the team for their upcoming game in Philadelphia but won’t be playing until Saturday. Despite two away games this week, Toronto FC plans to remain in the U.S. after the mid-week match.

Laryea, a designated player for Toronto FC, underwent surgery in London on March 23, with an expected recovery time of three months. Herdman stated that Laryea will not be part of the active roster for the Philadelphia game but is on track to play against D.C. United.

The 29-year-old Laryea, along with TFC captain Jonathan Osorio, has been named in Jesse Marsch’s first roster selection as Canada coach for upcoming friendlies against the Netherlands and France. Herdman expressed his pride in the players’ call-ups and their commitment to representing their country.

While Toronto FC will not have any scheduled games during the international break, Herdman will feel the absence of Laryea and Osorio during the Copa America tournament.

In other team news, rookie Tyrese Spicer is questionable for the next game due to a gastrointestinal issue, while Prince Owusu is being monitored for a calf injury. Brandon Servania and Shane O’Neil remain sidelined with knee and thigh injuries, respectively.

Toronto FC heads into the mid-week game against Philadelphia in sixth place in the Eastern Conference, aiming to improve their recent form in the league. Despite a setback in their last match against FC Cincinnati, the team has shown strong performances in recent competitions.
