(Montreal) CF Montreal midfielder Matko Miljevic no longer has a contract, MLS announced Monday.
Early this afternoon, in a terse statement, the league indicated that “following an investigation, MLS terminated the contract of CF Montreal midfielder Matko Miljevic due to harmful behavior for the league and for violating his player agreement.”
Last week, the 22-year-old Argentine made headlines for the wrong reasons, sometimes forcing journalists to be a little more insistent about what was happening off the field rather than on it.
The news broke on Wednesday morning, from the independent sports media Behind the Scenes. According to the article, Miljevic allegedly borrowed a false name to join an amateur soccer league in Laval and play three matches, which is not permitted under MLS contracts.
During another game in which he was not involved, Miljevic allegedly punched a player in the face following a heated exchange. The victim would have filed a criminal complaint for assault and the Bleu-blanc-noir midfielder would have been banned for life from the league in question.
Targeted as a potential replacement for midfielder Djordje Mihailovic, who was sold to a top division club in the Netherlands last year, Miljevic suffered an injury during camp, delaying his progress. Since his return to the game, he has not broken anything, collecting only one assist in eight games in MLS.
