Cheryl Reeve, the head coach of the Minnesota Lynx, recently received backlash for not including rookie Caitlin Clark in the USA Basketball women’s Olympic roster. Despite Clark’s impressive performance in the few WNBA games she played, Reeve faced criticism for leaving her off the team.
During a recent interview before a game against the Indiana Fever, ESPN’s Myron Medcalf asked Reeve about Clark’s potential future on the national team. Reeve seemed dismissive of the question, stating, “Why the hell would I answer a national team question? I’m wearing Lynx. And I’m the head coach of the national team, but I’m not the chair of the committee. Anybody want to venture into anything else?”
When asked about the possibility of a pro-Fever crowd at the game, Reeve responded, “I don’t give two s–ts. I don’t’ give one s–t.” She seemed unfazed by the so-called “Clark effect” at Target Center.
The Lynx had a strong record of 16-7 and were in third place in the WNBA standings, while the Fever improved to 10-14 after a win over the Phoenix Mercury. Indiana was ranked seventh in the standings at the time of the matchup.
Despite the controversy surrounding Clark’s exclusion from the Olympic roster, Reeve remained focused on her role as the head coach of the Lynx.
