A Czech family spends their summer vacation in Croatia. There, a tragedy occurs: a child dies in an explosion in a car – presumably from a hand grenade. The circumstances are still a mystery.

A child from the Czech Republic was killed in a car explosion while on holiday in Croatia with his family. The father of the child, who was around nine years old, has been arrested. This was confirmed by the Foreign Ministry in Prague. The Croatian police announced on Friday that the 46-year-old is accused, among other things, of committing a serious crime against public security.

The man is suspected of having entered the marked danger zone of a military training area near the town of Knin with his child. He allowed the child to take an explosive device he had found into the car – “in the reckless belief that this would not have any undesirable and life-threatening consequences.”

The vehicle later had to stop in the town of Bilisane because of a breakdown. When an attempt was made to remove the dangerous object from the car, the explosive charge was triggered. It was probably a hand grenade.

Two women, aged 49 and 34, were also injured in the explosion. They were taken to hospital. The father of one of the injured women told the Czech television station Nova a different version of events: During the accidental stop in Bilisane, the boy discovered an object in the bushes that exploded when he was returning it to the car. According to him, it could be a legacy from the Yugoslavian wars.
