Commanders’ Coach Reveals Unawareness of McManus Allegations Until Last Week, Quinn Claims
Washington Commanders coach Dan Quinn disclosed that the team had no knowledge of the sexual assault accusations against kicker Brandon McManus when they signed him in free agency. The team only became aware of the allegations late last month, according to Quinn.
The lawsuit filed against McManus by two women, who accused him of sexually assaulting them during a flight to London last season, was the reason behind his release from the team. The Commanders signed McManus to a one-year, $3.6 million deal on March 14, but he was let go after the lawsuit was filed on May 24.
Quinn stated that he was informed of the allegations on May 27 but refrained from providing further comments as the situation is still under investigation. The coach emphasized the importance of open communication within the team to address such issues promptly.
McManus’ attorney, Brett R. Galloway, has maintained his client’s innocence throughout the legal proceedings. When questioned about the team’s decision to release McManus, Quinn cited the ongoing investigation and refrained from elaborating further.
The Commanders’ history of a toxic workplace culture under former owner Dan Snyder, which led to a $10 million fine in 2021, may have influenced the organization’s response to the allegations against McManus. Snyder himself faced allegations of sexual misconduct and was fined $60 million following a lengthy inquiry.
In light of McManus’ departure, the Commanders signed Ramiz Ahmed as his replacement. Ahmed, who previously played for the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers, is set to fill the void left by McManus. The team, however, remains open to exploring other options for the kicker position.
