A British couple who actually wanted to fly to Spain accidentally landed in Lithuania. The error happened despite multiple ticket checks.

A British couple wanted to enjoy their holiday in the Spanish sun. Instead, according to the BBC, they found themselves around 2,700 kilometers away from their original destination: in the Lithuanian city of Kaunas.

Andrew Gore, a leg amputee, and his autistic wife Victoria always need special assistance when travelling by air. They reported that their flight numbers were displayed at the gate and they were led to the departure area of the aircraft where their boarding passes were checked by ground staff. They were then taken on board the aircraft where their boarding passes were checked again.

Despite repeated assurances that the rest of their travel group was also on board, they ended up in the Lithuanian city of Kaunas – 2,700 kilometers from their planned destination. After landing in Lithuania, they were rebooked on the next available flight to Barcelona, which, however, did not depart from the Latvian capital Riga until the next morning. Ryanair booked the couple an overnight stay and a 241-kilometer Uber ride to the airport, reports the Independent.

The couple eventually arrived in Barcelona, but their suitcases didn’t reach their hotel on the Costa Brava until two days later. “It was surreal and an experience I never want to have again,” Andrew told the BBC.

In another case, problems occurred before take-off, but were caused by one of the passengers. The plane turned around before take-off because one of the passengers developed excessive flatulence, which caused extreme inconvenience to the other passengers.
